Disc Transfer
Optical media may not be as popular as it once was, but many precious memories are still stored on older discs. Whether it's DVDs of old family videos or audio recordings of your child's budding singing career, we can transfer them, even if the original discs are heavily scratched or unreadable in other hardware players.
Most commonly, we convert video from DVDs to MP4 video files that you can watch on everything from your TV to your cellphone. We create custom solutions for clients all the time, so don't hesitate to detail your specific needs when filling out our quote form.
Even if the disc has visible scratches or dye corruption and is unreadable in standard settop CD/DVD players, chances are very high we can recover the original data for you. Read more about our recovery services below.
If your disc came from a camcorder or settop DVD recorder, it is recommended to finalize your disc via the original device, if possible. This feature is often found in the device's menu, under an option labeled "Disc" or "Disc Management".
Disc finalization is not a requirement - our software can often extract unfinalized discs. But it's not a 100% guarrantee, as camcorders and recorders used a variety of different finalization techniques in the past and it's difficult to support them all.
Disc Recovery
Faulty discs are becomming more and more common, for a variety of reasons. The primary issue stems from disc dye discoloration due to light exposure, or deep scratches, but there are too many root causes to list.
We specialize in retrieving audio/video data from faulty discs, using combinations of forensic-grade software and multi-drive image layering to recover as much of a disc as possible. This is all a bunch of fancy words to say we try really dang hard to pull data off your disc.
If a disc has deep scratches, we use specially-designed disc polishing machines to create a recoverable surface.
In sum, if we can't get your data off the disc, it's unrecoverable.
The only defect we cannot yet handle are cracked/shattered discs. Other labs may be able to help you though, so don't lose heart.
