FAQ
General
What output formats / storage do you support?
Currently we support USB flash and SSD drives, as well as DVD discs. We're experimenting with Blu-ray support as well, although we do not offer it just yet.
Do you deinterlace?
Yes.
By default, all recordings you receive from us are deinterlaced or inverse-telecined (in the case of DVD transfers).
If you desire the original, interlaced capture, we're happy to give it to you. This is common for customers who use our lossless / professional capture formats.
Simply mention that you want the original interlaced footage when requesting your quote.
Video Tape Transfer
What tape formats do you support?
We currently support VHS, Super VHS, VHS-C, MiniDV, DV, HDV, and DVCAM.
We regulary add support for new formats, so don't hesitate to contact us to see if we are working on supporting a particular format not listed above.
Do you support recording to lossless or professional video formats?
Yes.
We currently support FFV1 (recommended), and ProRes. Our workflow is adaptable, so if you have a specific format you need your content recorded in, just mention it when requesting a quote.
Note: we do not deinterlace our lossless / professional formats by default, in the spirit of capturing the true original image. If you'd like your footage deinterlaced, we're happy to do so. Simply mention it in the notes when requesting your quote.
Do you use Time Base Correctors (TBCs)?
Yes.
We use different combinations of line- and frame-based TBCs depending on the source.
We aim to produce as stable a signal as possible, with minimal format changes before capture.
Disc Transfer
What disc formats do you support?
We support CD, DVD (including DVD-R(W) and DVD+R(W)), and Blu-ray.
Additionally, we support MiniDVD, as often used in camcorders.
It is highly recommended to finalize your MiniDVD via the original camcorder / recorder, if possible. This feature is often found in the device's menu, under an option labeled "Disc" or "Disc Management".
Disc finalization is not a requirement - our forensic grade software can often extract unfinalized discs. But it's not a 100% guarrantee, as camcorders used a variety of different finalization techniques in the past.
